Behind the scenes
The Efox reporters have tracked down Simon Birchall ACC Events, to ask what’s happening with Charnwood.
Sam: I thought Charnwood was going to be in 2012, now it seems to have moved to 2011? Why is this?
Simon: “You are right, it was planned for 2012, but after talking to leaders and others, the County Team have made a decision that we should run Charnwood in 2011. This was due to a number of issues, the main ones being that if we moved to 2012 there will be a large number of Scouts in the County who wouldn’t be able to experience Charnwood as a Scout – they will have moved on to Explorers – concerns over the timing of the Olympics and losing leaders who might like to Volunteer for this. GirlGuiding Leicestershire has agreed with us and so the decision has been made.
Sam: But isn’t 2011 the same year as the World Scout Jamboree?
Simon: Yes that’s correct. Leicestershire will be sending a maximum of 54 Scouts to the Jamboree and this gives us a wonderful opportunity to support those going and provide a truly international Year for Scouting in the County.
Sam: When and where is it going to be?
Simon: The exact date has yet to be fixed, but it is likely that it will
be around the end of July or in the first couple of weeks of August.
The dates depend to some extend on the site and that hasn’t been
fixed yet either!
Sam: There seem a lot to do, so what’s happening now?
Simon: You're right there’s loads to do: for this Charnwood we are moving away from having
joint organisers and this Charnwood will be led by Richard Coppock, with a team made up
from both the Scout and Guide Counties, which will be in place very sonn and working hard
to develop the event.
Sam: When will I hear more?
Simon: The website will be going
live in February 2010, where all the
essential information will be available – www.charnwood.org – put it in your favourites folder now! There will be Charnwood page in the Efox each month to keep you up to date.
