Deputy Directors

Gill Gates – Deputy Director (Guides)

DSCF7575What is your role in Guiding?
I am a Guide, Rainbow and Brownie leader within Leicester.

Have you been to a Charnwood Camp before?
I have been to all Charnwood’s but 1985, but I did visit.

What will you be doing in your role as Deputy Director (Guides)?
As Deputy Director (Guides) I am looking forward to working with the fantastic team of leaders to create a camp that is fun and provides all participants opportunities to meet new people, try out new activities and challenge themselves, but most of all, leave with many happy memories. Whilst the camp is on I will work with other members of the camp management team to ensure everything goes to plan and is a wonderful experience to the participants.

What are you most looking forward to about Charnwood 2016
Seeing lots of young people having a great time, challenging themselves, doing new things and most of all making new friends.

What’s your favourite activity to do on camp?
Too many to list, but participating in a campfire is one the of top ones.

Chris Worth – Deputy Director (Scouts)

Day 2  C.A.Bennett-16What is your role in Scouting?
I am currently a County Explorer Scout Leader in Leicestershire

Have you been to a Charnwood Camp before?
I went to Charnwood ’91 working in the Scout Shop, 2001 on activity team, 2006 as Sub Camp Leader and 2011 as Camp Warden

What will you be doing in your role as Deputy Director (Scouts)?
Big question; my role will be to support the Camp Director, Richard Coppock and my fellow Deputy Director (Guides), Gill Gates as much as I possibly can. Whilst the wheels have been turning only recently has the event organisation began to gather pace. My role is also to support the team managers and staff as much as possible and ensure that there is a flow of information between teams. Ultimately it is the role of all staff at Charnwood, regardless of “job title” to make sure that Charnwood delivers one of the best international experiences for the Scouts and Guides of Leicestershire and for our national and international guests.

What do you think makes Charnwood standout from other international camps in the UK?
I think all internationals offer a great experience and all offer a similar array of activities and experiences. With Charnwood though I think the numbers are right; it’s a big enough event to be incredibly exciting to a 10/11 year old scout or guide but not so big that it is intimidating or scary. There is a genuine opportunity to meet everyone during your time at a Charnwood.

What are you most looking forward to about Charnwood 2016?
Cycling around site, no doubt with my own children in convoy, seeing all the hard work paying off and seeing the young people enjoying the camp.

What’s your favourite activity to do on camp?
I like the evening activities that get everyone together so the street parties, sub camp disco’s, ceremonies etc although I do like having a go at Archery so you might find me there if I have a spare half an hour!
